Brake Disc Removal

Postby rainbird » Thu 06 Dec 2012 6:20 pm

1989 Classic Rangie without ABS
What is the socket size needed to separate the brake disc from the hub? It looks like some 12 pointed socket is needed to get a grip on the bolt heads and I've got nothing like that in the tool box.

Cheers
Peter

Hi Pete

It's just a standard double hex socket. Think 14mm or 9/16 of the top of my head.

Pete.

Pics of both types here:

Using a six sided one is preferable on normal 6 sided nuts & bolts as the 12 pointers have a nasty habit of rounding off corners making things even harder to undo!

you will probably need a big breaker bar to shift them too, approx torque setting is FT!

9/16th and an air gun whips them off.If you don't have an air gun,lay the wheel flat, place the hub into the wheel studs. This will give you something to pull against.
