300 tdi fly by wire pump

Hi I have a mate who is putting a engine from a 300tdi with auto box in to anothe Disco with manual box can he modify the pump to cable rather then fly by wire or what is the best thing to do

Swap the pump from the old engine
If it is a alarm spec pump will need to be recoded
