300tdi viscous fan removal ?

Postby corporal » Tue 01 Nov 2011 4:26 pm

Hello, last winter ( - 19deg !!) I removed the fan altogether and the engine still stayed cold. This year I was thinking of just cable tieing it up to stop it spinning - question is will this knack it up permanently ? or better to take it off again ?? thanks, lawrence.

Best to remove it, not tie it up. Stick it in a bin bag under your back seat :D Not got around to putting mine back on from last winter lol,

You could cable tie the fan blades but if for any reason the radiator happens to get hot and the viscous coupling on the fan locks up something will go bang. :D
Simpler just to take the fan off.
I used to run my old Disco without the fan almost all year and only chickened out during really hot spells of weather and refitted it then.
