Insurance??????

Postby jtaz469 » Mon 03 Oct 2016 9:50 pm

Hey everyone, I'm sure I'm not the first and wont be the last. I'm struggling to insure my defender. I'm 29 with 12 years no claims and still struggling to get a decent price! (under £800) I have a defender 110 300tdi with the usual modifications such as alloys wheels, nas rear step, grill and snorkel. nothing unusual for a land rover. so why is it such a struggle for companies to insure me? can anyone recommend an insurance company? I've tried the land rover magazine and even some of the specialist land rover insurers don't insure a 110 defender with 9 seats!!!( land rover specialist my ass)

any help or recommendation will be a great help!

Thanks.

Hmmm,
dunno why this is happening . I have an old Series II that I recently modified into a tipper landy with a Link tipper body . Did all the usual with the insurance broker - Lancaster - an then moved house .... at which point the insurer flatly refused to cover it unless it was garaged . ( Which wasn't the case before ) Have had the vehicle 12 yrs an no bother n no claims neither . They then started asking stupid questions abt seats n will I use it for work ( no ! It's 50 yrs old ! ) I think they just wanted it off their books frankly . It was assessed bt a DoT examiner who thought it was a bloody clever conversion - so I dunnoo where to go fr insurance now :( K

Likely to be the difference in area & the risk perceived by the insurance companies.
Not that unusual even with a completely standard vehicle & premiums often much higher

....UPDATE .....Well, after contacting Adrian S Flux and outlining my situation - would you believe ? All modifications accepted and fully comp ' for £150 ... same price as Lancaster and no arseyness abt where its parked ( I have a secure place for it anyway ) Also full breakdown cover for another £40 , so IF anyone thinks Lancaster is still worth bothering with - I don't . Hope this helps others :) K
