P38 leak

Postby KCB » Sat 05 Jun 2010 8:48 pm

Whilst looking under the P38 (97 4.6), noticed a coolant leak from the back of the engine running down both sides to the bellhousing, can't see where the leak is coming from above, any ideas, ( there's no power loss and limited amount of top up required)

Are you sure it is coolant and not the air con drain?

definately coolant - AC drain is usually clear water - this is red coolant (not trans oil either)

Check for leaking pipes or connections at the back of the manifold, if it like earlier cars the heater take off pipes are there and run through the bulkhead.

There is an O ring problem with the P38 but I think that is internal, usually shows up as wet carpets I believe.

Unlike the classic the heater connection is higher up on the left (drivers) side, not in the valley, ( which when these hoses leak generally coolant generally collects in the valley gasket)
The heater connetion is not leaking and would not account for coolant tracking on both sides

still looking
