Freelander Td4 fuel consumption

Postby landroverro » Wed 24 Feb 2010 9:29 am

Hi guys,
How much diesel fuel eats your Td4?
With the last full fuel tank, 60 litres, I've made only 355 km
That means a fuel consumption of almost 17 litres per 100 km.
Did any of you experienced something like that or is something wrong with my engine?
I have an automatic gear box, but I think this is a little too much.

I'm also in KM's and I get between 650 and 700 per tank.
Currently have a 2004 Freelander TD4 HSE, the latest in a long list of Land Rovers!

 13 gallons for 220 miles (ish) = 17 mpg

Are you sure it's a Freelander, and not a petrol V8 RRC?

Either you need to seriously modify your driving style, or you have a serious problem!

I get 36 - 38 mpg driving about. 40 - 42 on a decent run & about 25 pulling a 1300kg caravan!

I was getting more than that from my 127 - V8 EFI and auto-box, but it depends a lot on driving style and traffic conditions.

Any other symptoms? Rough running? I know that there is some very poor quality fuel in parts of Romania, that fouled up some of our vehicles. Or has someone been dipping your tank?

Sure it's a Freelander, although when I think about drinking, I doubt mouse.
The engine works fine. No visible defect or a leak of diesel, fuel tank is not broken and used treatment for diesel from Metabond, that Megasel.
Do not know where to start looking for flaws.
It was quite cold and went only to the city.
Now I have power from another producer of diesel, trying to see if the reason was the diesel fuel, although I do not think.

We get about 33-37mpg out of our TD4 in daily use, sometimes over 40mpg.

We struggle to get 30mpg out of our Vauxhall Zafiras at work and I calculated less than 20mpg out of a diesel Volvo last week!

Cheers
