What OBD reader?

Postby Someoldblokey » Tue 31 Oct 2017 10:11 am

Hi. Can anyone advise on an OBD reader that will work effectively with a a 2013 Freelander 2?
There are many out there ranging from a few quid upwards but I have no idea which ones are suitable and if any might damage the system. I recently tried the AA Car Genie but it appears to only work on engine faults.
Thanks :)

If you are looking for a serious bit of kit I thoroughly recommend this

Pricey though but capable of everything from reading and erasing fault codes to programming keys etc. Also loads of support available from the associated forum.

For a basic fault code reader, something like this would probably do

Have a Nanocom for Discovery 2 TD5 if anyone needs a shot.

I use a bargain basement EBay special. That said, i’ve only plugged it in once to prove it worked. It reads & clears codes, and gives live data. Buy has no programming functions.

I’ve still got a Hawkeye with D2 software unlocked, and did once threaten to pay the unlock fee for the F2.
