TD5 Central Locking not working with plip

Postby andymach23 » Sun 21 Feb 2010 12:33 pm

The plip has stopped unlocking the car. This first happened the other day after the car was left sitting for a few days. I firstly thought that it might be the car battery (plip battery is recent and red light comes on ok!). After I unlock the car using the key, I can deactivate the alarm sounder ok with the plip. The car is also starting ok.

After the car is sitting all night I get 12.1v on the tester with the car switched off. After doing about 40 miles yesterday split between 3 trips, I had 12.5 volts on the tester.

Would a battery on the way out cause the plip to stop working the central locking? Any other ideas?

Cheers, Andy

Yes, I think it was working like that yesterday. I'll do another test in a bit to confirm.

Sounds like the electric actuator in the door lock is faulty, only one thing to do replace the lock, unfortunatly. :)

Yup +1 on the diagnosis, if the other doors unlock on the second plip, the actuator is the fault, and you'll probably be able to open the drivers on the key.

No the plip won't open the rest of the doors and the plip wouldn't stop the alarm sounding too well. When I opened the door after unlocking with the key, I had to press the fob a heap of times to get the alarm off.

I'm afraid now that I'm maybe not going to be able to stop the alarm sounding if I unlock with the key.

The drivers door lock mechanism is opening no problem with the key so I suppose this shows that the issue is more central locking stuff, rather than the drivers door lock failing.

Key usually works for opening the door when the system is fubar, but if it's not opening the rest, may be the microswitch on the keyfob. Mine came off and I had a mate re-solder it. Do you have a second fob? This will allow you to test if it's the fob, or the bcu which iirc contains the alarm functions.

We assume the fob battery battery is 100%. There could be a problem with the transmission between the fob and the receiver positioned above the rear head lining it's not unknow for the receiver to go faulty due to condensation in the roof area.
A main dealer has the kit and can to a function test and may the independants as well.
