Breast High Road - URGENT

Cumbria CC have inspected Breast High Road and are putting an Emergency TRO on the grounds of "safety" for users with no plans to re open until they have the money to repair it. A TRO that bans only vehicles.

They are claiming it's safe to use on a mountain bike or a horse or foot even though there are some big loose rock sections created by water mostly but unsafe in a Land Rover at walking pace!

This is clearly incorrect at an almost comical level. I'm not belittling mountain bikers or walkers. I am on after all.

If it is so unsafe as they claim to use it then ALL users should be restricted from using it.

May I strongly suggest that many people need to point this lunacy out to this poor unsuspecting gentleman:

Many Thanks

Phil

Went there yesterday before seeing this...............road closed signs on the gates but no TRO info so I rang CC to try to find out and as stated already the reply I got was the same :(

The TRO is supposdly valid for 6mths from 27th Oct but may also be extended.............shame because BreastHigh is a great lane.

If Im honest, the top section going from the A6 (ford end) where it curves round could really do with some "repair" as it would be easy for vehicles to fall into the bank but I would suggest thats all that the lane needs.

Ive received reassurance from the Higways manager that the TRO is temporary as they are seeking funds to repair it in the spring and they have no intention of trying to close it. The hairpin does need work but my gripe was the lane was in much worse state in 2009 and was open, now they are going to TRO it before they have the funding. We will see what happens and hopefully they stick to their word.
